A little bit about the work….
Originally, the work in this show was meant to reflect my desire to live in the present moment and experience life fully while also acknowledging my growing anxiety concerning climate change. I began making these paintings in the spring of 2022. As summer began to unfold with the new-norm of bad weather news and then the over-turning of Roe v. Wade, my concern for Women’s Rights started to enter the work as well. These celebratory paintings were made during a tumultuous time for Mother Earth and Women’s Rights. With hope, may they prevail.
There are 21 paintings in the exhibit. Most measure 11”x14” and could almost connect through the horizon line that I used. I painted some animals for the first time: a bear and also an alligator on a golf course. Some of the skies are happy blue skies with floating clouds, others are pretty angry. I enjoyed making this work but my mind also got pretty dark at times while painting and thinking about the news. Running and yoga help me move my body and unstick my thoughts. I did a lot of those things over the summer too. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for looking at my work.
